I’ve never been more excited for a collaboration between two artists than I am for this one between Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile. These two artists are master storytellers and musicians whose most recent albums are both incredible. Their first single off their new album due out on October 6th is “Over Everything.” It’s exactly what you’d come to expect from both artists. Just imagine leaving for a road trip on a crisp fall morning, this is the song you’d put on. It’s a very airy song with light acoustic and electric guitars and gentle percussion to carry it along. Kurt’s unmistakable twang as he longingly recalls a time where nothing mattered but the music in his ears.
When I’m all alone on my own by my lonesome
And there ain’t a single ‘nother soul around
I wanna dig into my guitar bend a blues riff that hangs
Over everything
Courtneys back and forth with Kurt is charming and equally nostalgic as she sings, “When I’m strugglin with my songs I do the same thing too. And then I crunch em up in headphones, cause why wouldn’t you?” They both let loose on the guitars at the end of the song, in ambling solos backed up with Kurts sporadic exclamations of “don’t wanna talk about it.” Is there a better duo in indie music right now? I doubt it. We’re so excited for their album Lotta Sea Lice and for their upcoming tour together.
